(435) 381-2736 or (435) 749-9334Duane and Kolene Gilbert raise Watusi Cattle and Grant Zebra in Castle Dale, Utah between the Rocky Mountains and the Sinbad desert. The view is spectacular in every direction. Duane is a rancher; since 1972 living on a small ranch. He has tried to obtain the best of whatever he was raising: quarter/ paint horses, angus cattle, border collies, Grant zebras or Watusi cattle.
Ranching has been an important part of raising children in the Gilbert family. Now their four children, Mindy, Jesse, Angie and Chance are grown and have families of their own. Involving the grandkids is even more fun. Little boys and girls from ages 4 to 8 years are found roping calves, taming zebra foals, and riding horses. The older kids have cattle of their own that they are exhibiting in Watusi shows and county fairs and competing in events with their horses.
The first Watusi purchased by the Gilberts came from the ranch of Don Zavislan in Pueblo Colorado. Don was a founding father of the WWA. Duane and Kolene would like to pay tribute to Don and will always remember him for his friendship and his knowledge about cattle that he taught Duane.
